In the heart of the Alpes-Maritimes, at the foot of the majesticMonte Bégo and at the gateway to the famousValley of Wonders, a fascinating journey through more than a thousand years of history awaits you.

The Vallauria Mine, one of the most important mining sites in the Alps, houses a unique heritage made up of tunnels dug into the rock, ancient mining techniques and stories of men who have dedicated their lives to the search for silver.

The experience starts at the Visitor Center, the starting point for guided tours. From here, a pleasant panoramic walk of about 20 minutes leads to the entrance of the mine, crossing the spectacular alpine landscapes that characterize this territory.

Accompanied by an expert guide, you will enter the heart of the mountain following an underground itinerary of about 900 meters, including large medieval extraction chambers, tunnels dug into the rock, ancient dry stone walls and sections created with the first explosive techniques.

Along the way, you will discover how mining has evolved over the centuries, delving into the geology of the Monte Bégo Massif, silver mining techniques and the daily life of miners who worked in extreme conditions.

The visit ends at the Saint-Félix exit, from which you return to the starting point through a suggestive panoramic path surrounded by nature.

An immersive experience that combines history, industrial archeology and alpine landscapes, offering an authentic look at one of the most fascinating places in the Maritime Alps.

Recommended Clothing

Inside the mine, the temperature is constant, around 10°C, even during summer. It is recommended to wear:

  • closed shoes with non-slip soles;
  • warm clothing or a jacket.

The underground path is fully illuminated; no headlamps are needed.

Requirements

  • Recommended activity starting at 6 years.
  • Not suitable for people with reduced mobility or special health problems.
  • Dogs are not allowed inside the mine.
